Meet the Team
Our household has three kitties: Henri, Floyd, and Simon. This is the fewest we’ve ever had! Historically, we’ve fluctuated between 4 and 7. Since we’re running short on pets to feature in my videos this year, I’ve enlisted extra help: Poppy is our friend Deana’s doggie and Shelly is my sister Lisa’s doggie.
Henri
Henri was adopted from the shelter as a kitten in 2018. He was so tiny! He was also sick and we weren’t sure he was going to make it. But we nursed him back to health and he grew into the big and fat tuxedo cat he is today. Henri has a terrific personality. He gets along well with people and other animals. He loves to roll around and play chase with Simon. He is smart enough to try door handles when he wants in or out. He is a natural hunter, much to the chagrin of the local lizard population. He can also be quite naughty and disobedient, which is why he is often cast in the role of “thief” or “burglar”. Henri loves back rubs, kisses, and especially belly rubs.
Floyd
Floyd, full name Pretty Boy Floyd, is a Covid kitty. A friend of mine feeds stray cats near his job, and the day before lockdown in 2020 he noticed one of the cats was pregnant. So he brought it home and the next day she had seven kittens. Seven! Naturally, I had to have one. Floyd is a large and handsome ginger who loves to sleep on mama’s legs and burrow when he gets pets. Floyd was very nearly polydactyl. He has an extra claw on his left paw, and a very thick claw on his right. He can be a bit of a bully, but can also be very sweet. He has a funny way of laying, with his right paw extended out and backwards, making him look a bit like a chalk outline. He enjoys rolling around in the sun, showing belly.
Poppy and Shelly
Poppy and Shelly are both older dogs. They are very good girls who love their mamas. Poppy is a local Shih Tzu. My wife loves her and wants a dog just like her. Shelly is a mutt who lives in South Carolina. My kitties have never met her, except on video calls.
Simon
Simon is the youngest, born in 2024. He is cute cute cute! He does cute things all the time. He was originally adopted from the shelter by our niece, but somehow ended up in my wife’s car – with our niece’s permission, of course. Simon is a gray tuxedo who likes to rub heads with his mamas and groom our hair, which is why one of his nicknames is “the barber”. He’s no lap cat, but he loves pets and meows for them insistently when he’s in the mood. Simon is sweet and good natured. He gets along with everyone (except Floyd sometimes – but that’s Floyd’s fault). Simon is so laid back he even interacts with Poppy when she visits!
Cathy
I’m Cathy Jamieson - The Proposition Lady! I live in San Jose. I work in office management/employee engagement. I just got laid off, so I’m looking for work while trying to create videos for the 14 propositions on California’s ballot this year. Bit busy!
I’m not much of a social media person and I don’t want to be a full-time “influencer”. But every two years I dust off my YouTube channel and combine my love of civics with my love of kitties to make videos for the California State Propositions. I like to think of myself as a “de-influencer”. I try and present everything you need to know to decide how to cast your vote, without trying to influence how you vote. I like to think that Californians on both extremes of the political spectrum can watch my content without becoming angry.
This summer will be a challenge. Can I research, write and produce a video for each of the 14 propositions before the election? Will I find a job? And if I do find a job, will I be able to work on The Proposition Lady at all? This remains to be seen.
